On a balmy Sunday in June we saw parents, friends and members of the Prior Park Association gather to enjoy a picnic and sporting afternoon.  Spectators could choose from the very competitive cricket match between old boys and present students or the more jovial but equally competitive tennis tournament of past and present parents, children and friends.  Our thanks go to Giles Pruett who organized the tennis tournament roster.
This was the first joint venture between the PPA and the SPF and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended.  The SPF provided a match tea of cakes, scones, tea and soft drinks which was very welcome after all the exertions! This was such a success we hope to repeat the joint event next year and look forward to parents signing up for the tournament in their droves.

September 20th saw the highlight of the SPF year with the fantastic and dazzling late afternoon entertainment of the Carnival.  From all the fun of the fair to the highlight of the Balloon Lift eventually sailing away into the sunset, to the fantastic massed bands of the Prior Park, Samba Sulis and Thornbury Steel Band, this was an event to remember.  Entertainment throughout the afternoon was provided by students in the form of Mummers plays, Haker dance and Carnival Parade.  The Headmaster Giles Mercer even entertained? the tea tent with his rendition at the karaoke stand.  The beer tent sold out of Pimm's on one of the most glorious Indian summer afternoons in September.

In the shade of the wonderful pavilions the tea and cakes provided a calming anathema to the energetic giant games and circus skills provided on the other side of the site. As the evening progressed delicious food was provided by Scholarest in the refectory to charge up the batteries prior to the grand finale

As the sun set, the tempo rose as the Rugby Shirt was auctioned by Andy Robinson for a whooping £1050.  Against the background of the view down through Prior Park garden and the lights round the lake, fireworks lit up the night sky as a fitting end to a wonderful day.  Everyone enjoyed this great new event which brought the whole school community together.  Many thanks to all those who gave their time and helped set up and man the various activities; we could not do this without you.  Thanks are due also to those who attended and contributed to such a great atmosphere - we look forward to seeing you next year.

Don't go home after the musical feast of the Christmas concert on December 5th, come and join us in the Baines House Gymnasium and finish the evening with fine feast of puddings.   Warm the cockles of your heart with a pudding, and your hands with glass of SPF mulled wine.  In the grand SPF tradition refreshments will be served to the sounds of the Jazz Band.

Mulled wine, tea and coffee will accompany a selection of delicious puddings provided by committee members.  This is a chance to catch up with old friends, make new friends and enjoy the glowing atmosphere that marks the start of the Christmas festivities.
