The beginning of January saw the latest sale of second hand uniform. We did not have much in the way of fresh stock but still sold a very healthy amount. Particular thanks to Ingrid Turner for her hard work on the afternoon.

Our next sale is on
Thursday 24th June  - 11+ Induction Day when there is likely to be enormous demand from new parents.

Demand continues to exceed supply in certain items, particularly games wear, blazers and girls' skirts. (We have too many blue and white shirts to possibly sell, and lots of trousers, not so many skirts.) Of course, many items are worn to shreds by our children and could not possibly be offered for second time use but there is great demand from parents trying to kit out their children without breaking the bank, supplementing new purchases with some second-hand.

So if your child has outgrown any of their uniform, and if it is still in good condition, please let us sell it for you.  You can drop it into Reception at any time - not just in the week before the sale as previously.

We sell on a 50:50 basis, settling up at the end of the year. We have found a problem in the past in having very tiny amounts of money to refund so now only refund amounts greater than £5.

You might recently have noticed, on driving through school that, to the right of the drive above the DT Centre and swimming pool, Our Lady of the Snows has been restored. We were delighted to respond to Fr. Fred's request for money to be able to undertake the restoration and are thrilled with the end result.

The most important church in the city of Rome dedicated to Our Lady is the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, erected around the year 352, during the reign of Pope Liberius. According to legend, a member of an aristocratic family, John and his wife were childless and prayed that the Blessed Mother might designate an heir to bequeath their wealth. they were favoured with a dream in which Our Lady appeared to them on the night of August 4-5.

She requested that they build a church in her honour on the Esquiline hill and the sign to accompany this dream is that the exact location would be marked out in snow.

During that hot summer evening, a miraculous snowfall traced the form of the basilica on the hill.

Our Lady also appeared to Pope Liberius in a dream that same night so that he too could arrive at the location to see the miraculous snowfall. Many people gathered to see the unusual event of snow glistening in the August sun. Upon awakening, John and his wife rushed to the site and Pope Liberius arrived in solemn procession.

Realizing that the snow marked the exact location of the church, the people staked off the area before the snow melted. The basilica was completed within two years and consecrated by Pope Liberius.
